Intimate Wedding Photography in Lancashire
I absolutely love photographing small weddings. I feel as though there is something really special about documenting a wedding that’s so personal. You have you be more discreet to capture those little moments but in doing so you become part of the little yet momentous celebration. A wedding is a celebration of two people and two families uniting. I love how at smaller weddings the guests all know one another and have more opportunity to come together. From the moment I arrived in at the Assheton Arms in Downham this was more than apparent. Guests were laughing and smiling in the company of one another in the glorious Lancashire countryside.
Small Wedding at Downham Village Hall
Emma and Sam chose to have a selective number of guests at their wedding in Downham which just happens to be one of my favourite locations in Lancashire. If you’ve not been you must go to this area of natural beauty. The little tiny village in the heart of the Ribble Valley is situated at the bottom of the infamous Pendle Hill. Needless to say the views are beyond divine.
The tiny village meant that once the guests had all been acquainted with one another they could make the 5 minute walk through the scenic country lanes to the acute Village Hall. Downham village Hall left them with a totally blank canvas for creativity. From the moment I walked in I was absolutely blown away. They chose to have the curtains closed and fairy lights draped across ceiling. Candles lit and petals thrown it was the most beautiful place to say “I DO”.
Humanist Ceremony
With no more than 20 guests Emma and Sam chose their good friend Annie to be their celebrant for their humanist ceremony within the Village Hall. Annie spent time with the couple so she could tell their unique love story. It’s so personal and unique to hear tales from their childhood. How they met, right through their first dates and to the current day as the couple stood before her.
During the ceremony the rings were blessed by each member of their families and passed amongst their friends before their very special chocolate Labrador acted as the perfect ring bearer.
Wedding Portraits in Downham
After the ceremony all the guests made their way back across the village to the local hearty Inn, the Assheton Arms. This meant that Emma & Sam had plenty of time to stroll through the picture perfect village for their wedding photographs. Although the outside temperature was expected for that of spring the sunlight was incredible. We couldn’t have wished for anything more. We stopped almost every 20 steps as there are so many opportunities for great bride and groom photographs. I think it’s lovely when couples allow time for portraits not for me as a photographer but it gives you as newlyweds time to slow down and appreciate the incredible day that is your wedding.
I have to say these guys are so perfect for one another. They are both incredibly kind hearted and heart warming, it’s infectious. The devotion you clearly have for one another beams between you. It was my absolute pleasure to witness so many beautiful moments on your wedding day not only between the two of you but moments amongst those there with you. Thank you for being you.
