There are venues that look good in photographs. Stirk House looks good in photographs and makes you feel something entirely different when you’re actually standing inside it.
Built in 1635, partly from the stone of Sawley Abbey, dismantled a century earlier. The manor house carries the particular weight of a place that has genuinely been through something. Ivy-clad walls. A stone arch above the fireplace that has been there since the beginning. An original doorway that has welcomed guests since before any of this was imaginable.
